Because The Adventures of Long Dog D’Silvo is a story told by Dachshund superhero Long Dog, he’s told me what to write in the blog!
Hi there! I’m Sylvester Longfellow III, but my boy, Peter D’Silvo, calls me Long Dog. That’s me there on the cover of the book my author wrote, The Adventures of Long Dog D’Silvo (ISBN 978-1-4866-0901-7 available from Word Alive Press and popular book stores). I’m the little guy with the too-long ears. Pedro is the Chihuahua nearly the same size as me, Prissy the Sealyham Terrier has short legs like me, and the St. Bernard is called Tiny (and he laughed at my name!)—we’re the Doggie Gang. The two black Newfoundland dogs are too stuck-up to belong to a gang so we pretty much try to ignore them and their comments.
I was lucky to get Peter for my boy and the whole lot of us travel the east coast with our families on various sailing vessels. I was scared of the sea to start with, nearly drowned since my belly kept dragging me down, but once I claimed a water wing floating by and got Tiny’s help in getting it on, I was able to swim with the rest of them. I stabilize myself with those extra long ears that kept tripping me up; they come in handy for listening too, once I discovered how I could raise them high above my head and manoeuvre them around corners.
The Doggie Gang has all sorts of adventures, and I’m real proud to call them my friends. We thwart jewel robbers and capture dognappers; things didn’t turn out so well for me after a run-in with bees, but since my sniffer couldn’t sniff, I had to rely on my ears and let Pedro handle the nose jobs for awhile. I even had a run-in with Santa Claus and the head Elf! That’s all I’m going to tell you for now. Arf!
