The third in the Hercules and Big Bertha Mystery series, Case of Dognapper’s Folly, sees our tenacious Dog P.I. hot on the case of multiple dognappings. They aren’t just any canines either, but dogs and hounds that take on lawbreakers in post offices, air ports, and other government facilities. Along with Private Investigator Bertha Kowolski (Big Gal) they delve into the case with an eye to the ‘why’ of these particular abductions. While that is going on, Detective Paul Jamison (Handsome Hunk) has his hands busy trying to stem the tide of unusual weapons showing up in Falcon City. All signs points to a bigger issue at stake, but what?
Herc and Big Gal discover they have more than one case on their hands. They’re serious offenses that has law enforcement officials anxious for the safety of their officers as well as the public. It’s suspected that the bad guys, at least some of them, might come from down south of a border or two, and that they’re smuggling goods in while the specialized dogs aren’t on hand to sniff out the contraband. Hercules though, picks up right away on what he should be sniffing out, but his humans keep changing the names of the stuff. Sheesh!
Constable Sybil Green (Sybil-the-Brit) figures in strongly with the P.I. duo, even donning her ‘under cover’ clothes that draws plenty of attention; she’s even too slippery for Hercules to maintain a lap position as they speed down the roads!
Once more, Hercules, the Chihuahua Terrier cross, relates the tale in his own words and as usual, it’s his penchant for unusual smells that leads the way. When they finally catch the perpetrators, they discover an unexpected bad guy who’s just ruthless enough to take our dog hero hostage; just as unexpected is his rescuer.
